Setting Ticket Rules for a Birthday Package

Ticket rules decide who in a birthday party comes in free and who pays, without anyone on your team working it out by hand.

How tiers work

In the Ticket Assignment section of your package you build tiers. Each tier says how many guests get a given ticket type, and the last tier catches everyone left over.

A standard birthday rule looks like this:

• First 3 get FREE TICKET

• Everyone else gets Early Bird

On a party of eight, the first three guests come in free and the other five come in on Early Bird. On a party of four, three come in free and one pays. The rule scales to whatever party size the guest books, which is the point.

Use Add tier to build more layers. For example the first guest free, the next four on a discounted ticket, and everyone else on general admission. Tiers are applied in order from the top.

The Everyone else gets tier always sits at the bottom and cannot be deleted. It is what lets one rule handle every party size.

The order guests are assigned in

Guests are assigned in the order the guest entered their names on Guest Line. The birthday guest is always first and is marked as the main guest. Everyone else follows in the order they were typed in.

So the free tickets go to the birthday guest and whoever they listed next. If that matters at your venue, say so in your package description so guests list their party in the order they want.

Choosing ticket types

Ticket types are set at venue level, so select a venue before building your rules. Only that venue's ticket types are available.

Two things worth checking before you save:

• The free ticket type you pick still needs to exist at every venue you make the package available at

• If a ticket type is a paid release with limited quantity, birthday guests assigned to it draw from that quantity like anyone else

Leaving it empty

Ticket Assignment is optional. With no tiers, every guest in the party comes in on the event's default ticket type. That is the right setup when your birthday package is fully paid and nobody comes in free.

Overriding the rule on a single request

The package rule is a starting point, not a lock.

When you approve a birthday request, the Invite to Event modal carries an Assign different tickets per guest toggle with the same tier builder. Adjust it there and the change applies to that party only. Your package is untouched.

Use it for the cases that do not fit the rule. A regular whose birthday you want to look after, a party of twenty where you extend the free list, a group you would rather put on general admission. See Approving a Birthday Request.
